Streaming Services

Streaming services are on the cutting edge of new broadcast media technology. The  convergence of digital technologies combined with modern data infrastructures means that for the first time in history, a single radio station can truly broadcast to a Planet Wide audience.

The Planetwide Radio Company is dedicated to providing planet wide broadcast solutions via streaming media, to broadcasters of all styles and sizes. What makes us unique is our extensive background in radio technology and our understanding of what stations want and how they can achieve it.

But What Is Streaming?

Streaming Media is a broad term for the continuous broadcast of audio, visual and data information to a variety of digital devices. Primarily, the Internet is the main medium for streaming media services such as radio and TV broadcasts, but the development of 'wireless' networks and 3G mobile phones promises to widen potential audiences to levels never possible in the history of the world.

How Does It Work?

Put simply, Streaming Media technology and in particular Streaming Radio works by taking the traditional audio output from a radio station, converting it in to a digital data stream and making it available for people to connect to over the Internet or a 'wireless' network. The digital data stream is then 're-assembled' back in to audio (or video) by a small 'client' software program often called a Player. Where Does Planetwide Radio Come In?

In order for several (or thousands) of people to listen to your broadcast at once, they all have to be able to connect to the computer that is 'encoding' the audio to a digital data stream. This would mean that the amount of people who could listen to your broadcast simultaneously would be limited to the capacity of your connection to the Internet. To get around this, most Streaming Media broadcasters use a 'streaming host' such as the www.planetwideradio.com to 'rebroadcast' the transmission to a wider audience. This means that you only need to have a connection to the Internet with enough capacity to broadcast to one person (your Streaming host) and the amount of people that can listen to your broadcast is then determined by the capacity of your 'Streaming Service Provider'.

And Can PWR Support A Large Audience?

Planetwide Radio's Streaming Media servers reside in one of the UK's largest data centers right in the heart of London. From here, we are able to offer streaming solutions to stations of all sizes and with an average monthly capacity exceeding 100TB (tera bytes), we can handle even the most demanding applications whilst offering extremely competitive prices.
